Day 1 – Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens
On our way to Blue Hill we stopped at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens – such a beautiful place to see and hike around. We found all of the Trolls! There was a butterfly house as well as a special exhibit with unusual and rare caterpillars! I thought one looked like the one from Alice in Wonderland!
Day 2 – Blue Hill & Deer Isle
We are staying at a lovely VRBO in Blue Hill, it’s on a working blueberry farm and we can pick our own blueberries! The owner brought us a quart on our first day to welcome us! It’s all about the blueberries this time of year in Maine. Even had blueberry soda! We ate at this interesting pizza place (Strong’s Public House & Patio) on the way to Deer Isle – meatball subs were amazing! Deer Isle was beautiful, amazing bridge to cross to get to the Isle and found a great hiking trail (Barred Island Preserve) through the pine forest to the ocean!
Had a rain day so drove up to Bangor, not super exciting but did get to see my favorite childhood author’s former home!
Day 1 – Acadia National Park
After a one-day delay of rain we made it! What an amazing time hiking in Acadia for our first day! Tried to avoid the crazy crowds so went to the west side of Acadia today. Hiked Ship Harbor, saw Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, then went up to hike Flying Mountain with amazing views that someone told us were the best high views outside of Cadillac Mountain! Can’t wait to continue the hiking adventure on the East side!
Bar Harbor, Acadia Park & a Puffin/Lighthouse Boat Tour
A beautiful day touring Bar Harbor – cute town! Very crowded but beautiful views, some cute shops and tons of restaurants. Had a very good smoky fish dip, peel & eat Cajun shrimp and a crab/lobster cake! Yummy! Then we went on a puffin boat tour! Unfortunately, it is the end of the puffin breeding season, they had their babies and are off to the open sea where they spend the rest of the year! But we were lucky enough to see a few and they are so cute! Saw three Maine lighthouses along the way and enjoyed a very nice boat ride on a beautiful day. Dinner in Bar Harbor, followed by an amazing sunset then a drive to Thunder Hole in Acadia at night rounded out the evening!
